Continuing from last week’s post… Do You Find Homemaking Fulfilling?
As it turns out, we do. Find homemaking fulfilling that is. The simple joys of making your bed each morning, organizing drawers or cleaning out the refrigerator until it shines brings a Christian homemaker satisfaction and fulfillment.
We may be tempted to believe homemaking is mundane, drudgery, and… if we accept this mindset, it will be. No joy will be found in the daily tasks that take many of our hours.
We may be tempted to believe that we shouldn’t find satisfaction in homemaking. That if we glide through our days using our gifts, talents and skills that we should do so out of duty and not find joy in this.
Both temptations are a deception and should be quickly rejected. The truth of the matter is that while homemaking tasks may have a repetitive aspect about them, it is far from grunt work. It is a high calling and we must value it as so.
The idea that we should reject feeling contented from a job well done is another tactic of the enemy to steal joy. The LORD calls us to excellence and diligence. Perhaps we’ve never calculated the homemakers contribution.
Here are a few ways that you contribute, as a homemaker, to your family’s well-being:
- Bringing peace to the family
- Loving your husband and children
- Preparing meals
- Keeping the laundry clean and put away
- Keeping the home organized and presentable
- Teaching your children about the LORD and His ways
- Training and educating your children
- Providing hospitality
- Reaching out to the needy
- Being engaged with your family
- Being available for your husband and children in a myriad of ways
- Shopping and running errands
- Paying bills on time
- Keeping the checkbook balanced
- Keeping papers organized and quickly “findable”
- Giving the kids chores
The list goes on and on.
Ladies, you do a tremendously significant work in your homes each and every day! It shows, it encourages, it blesses. While many women are out of the home either by necessity or by choice, a full-time homemaker is available to contribute so much to her home, family and those around her.
We must continue in good works that bring glory to our Creator. His Word instructs us to be diligent and busy in our homes. we must weary not in well doing, for in due season, we shall reap.
What are some other ways that you as a Homemaker contribute to the good of your families?
