Is homemaking fulfilling to you? Yesterday I re-arranged one of our kitchen drawers. This wasn’t a planned activity, but I was blessed through it. To the world this may sound ridiculous. To other homemakers striving for virtue it is cause for praise to our LORD.
When I noticed the drawer needed some minor arranging, I felt fulfilled.
Somehow the prospect of quickly reorganizing the drawer gave me a sense of purpose and satisfaction. That tiny task said, “Your life has meaning.”
I want to interject here: As homemakers, we know our lives have meaning. Still though, we can easily get weighed down with:
- Training children
- Ministering to a husband
- Everything else that goes into being a stay at home mom
Tending to the contents of the drawer was confirmation, that being a full-time wife, mother and homemaker for God’s glory, matters.
I felt fulfilled because it was a simple task which took very little time. I wasn’t making a mess in the process, it looked 110% better when the job was done, and made me feel like I was contributing to the greater good of the family.
And truth be told; I was contributing to the greater good of the family. Spending 4 minutes cleaning out and straightening the drawer will be a blessing for weeks to come for anyone who needs a sandwich bag or a piece of foil. The boxes sit right in the front now, neatly placed and ready for use.
Next week I will share 16 Ways A Homemaker contributes to her family.
How about you? Do simple housekeeping tasks give you a feeling of fulfillment and godly joy?
